Getting started
Palet runs in your browser at app.palet.so. There is nothing to install. Signing in and creating an account are the same step.
- Enter your email. Open the sign-in page, type your email and choose Continue with email.
- Open the link we send you. It signs you in and expires in 5 minutes. If it doesn't arrive, you can ask for a new one after 30 seconds, or go back and use a different email.
- Tell us who you are. The first time you sign in, Palet asks for your name and a workspace name. It suggests a workspace name from your email; change it if you like. You can also add a photo here.
- Create your first file. On the Files page, choose New file. Palet makes a blank canvas called "Untitled" and opens it.
Already have an account? Sign in the same way.
The canvas
A file opens on an infinite canvas. The layers panel is on the left, the inspector on the right and the tools at the bottom. You can drag the panel edges to resize them.
Tools
Pick a tool from the bar at the bottom, or press its key. After you draw a frame, place text or add an image, Palet switches back to Move.
| Tool | Key | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Move | V | Select, move and resize layers. Drag on empty canvas to select several. |
| Frame | F | Drag to draw a frame. A single click makes a 100 × 100 frame. |
| Text | T | Click to place text. Click inside a frame to put the text in that frame. |
| Image | I | Opens the file picker. Click the canvas with it to place images at that spot. |
| Hand | H | Drag to pan the canvas. |
Moving around
- Scroll to pan. Hold Space and drag, use the Hand tool, or drag with the middle mouse button.
- Hold ⌘ (Mac) or Ctrl and scroll to zoom around the pointer. Pinching on a trackpad zooms too.
- When you open a file, the view fits what is on the canvas.
Frames and text
Frames hold other layers. Select a frame to set its size (Fixed, Hug or Fill), layout (block, flex or grid, with direction for flex), gap, padding, fill and corner radius in the inspector.
To edit text, double-click it. Enter or clicking away saves, Shift Enter adds a new line and Esc cancels. The inspector sets size, weight, colour and alignment.
Layers and the inspector
The layers panel lists everything in the file. Click a layer to select it, Shift-click to add to the selection, and double-click a name to rename it. Use the arrow next to a layer to expand or collapse it.
The inspector edits one layer at a time: select a single layer to see its position, size and the settings for its type.
Shortcuts
| Action | Mac | Windows and Linux |
|---|---|---|
| Undo | ⌘ Z | Ctrl Z |
| Redo | ⌘ Shift Z | Ctrl Shift Z |

| Send backward | ⌘ [ | Ctrl [ |
| Delete selection | Delete or Backspace | |
| Nudge 1 px | Arrow keys | |
| Nudge 10 px | Shift and an arrow key | |
| Select the parent, then clear | Esc (with another tool active, it switches back to Move) | |
Images and vectorise
Adding images
Use the Image tool, drag image files onto the canvas, or paste an image. Pasted and picked images land in the middle of the view; dropped images land where you drop them. You can add several at once.
- Formats: PNG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF and GIF.
- Up to 20 MB per image, and up to 50 megapixels.
Palet tells you which files it couldn't add and why.
Vectorise an image
Vectorise traces an image into a vector made of colour layers. It runs in your browser.
- Select the image. The inspector shows a Vectorise section.
- Choose a preset. Each one sets a starting number of colours:
- Line art (5): ink drawings, sketches, technical illustrations.
- Flat illustration (8): spot illustrations with solid fills.
- Logo / icon (3): few colours, crisp shapes, smallest files.
- Detailed (12): textured or shaded art, larger files.
- Adjust Colours between 2 and 16 if you want more or fewer.
- Choose Vectorise. A progress bar shows while it works; Cancel stops it.
The vector replaces the image in the same place, at the same size and with the same name. To get the image back, undo.
Edit the result
Each colour is its own path inside the vector. Expand the vector in the layers panel and select a path to:
- Recolour it with the Fill field.
- Hide it with the Visible switch, or the eye button in the layers panel.
- Turn on Theme colour so the path follows the text colour. In an exported SVG, these paths use
currentColor, so they take the colour of the text around them.
Export or copy the SVG
Select the vector. In the Export section, Export SVG downloads it as a file named after the layer, and Copy SVG puts the markup on your clipboard. Hidden paths are left out. The SVG has a viewBox and no fixed width or height, so it scales to fit wherever you put it.
Files and storage
Your files are saved in this browser, on this device, as you work. The badge in the top bar shows Saving… and then Saved. Another browser or device won't see them, so export a copy to keep a backup or to move a file.
If a file is already open in another tab, it opens read-only here. Close it there and this tab picks up its latest changes.
Export
Choose Export in the top bar of an open file, or from a file's menu on the Files page. You get a .palet.json file named after it. The images the file uses are embedded, so the export is complete on its own.
Import
On the Files page, choose Import and pick a .palet.json file, or drag the file onto the page. Import one file at a time, up to 50 MB. It is added as a new file and opens straight away.
Find, rename and delete
Search by name and sort by last edited, date created or name. Open a file's menu, or right-click it, to open, rename, export or delete it. Deleting can't be undone, so export first if you might want the file again.
Agents
Connect your coding agent to Palet as an MCP server. Run the command for your agent once, in a terminal.
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http palet https://api.palet.so/mcp Codex
codex mcp add palet --url https://api.palet.so/mcp Other agents
For any agent that reads an mcpServers config, add this entry:
{
"mcpServers": {
"palet": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://api.palet.so/mcp"
}
}
} There is nothing to install and no key to paste. The first time your agent uses Palet, your browser opens: sign in, pick the workspace and approve. An agent that can't open a browser can use an API key from Settings instead.
Account and settings
Open Settings from the sidebar.
Profile and workspace
Change your name and workspace name, then choose Save. Upload photo sets your picture: any image up to 10 MB, cropped to a square. Remove takes it off.
Theme
Choose System, Light or Dark. System follows your device. The choice is kept per browser.
API keys
Give a key a name and choose Create key. Copy it straight away: you won't see it again. Your keys are listed with the start of each key and the date it was created. Revoke a key you no longer use; anything using it stops working.
Signing out
Open the menu under your name in the sidebar and choose Sign out. Palet saves your open files first. If something isn't saved yet, it asks before signing you out. Your files stay in this browser and are there when you sign in again here.
